Read Receipts

bring a book you loved. leave with a stranger's.

Fri Jun 26 · 6:30pm – 9:00pm
Venue TBA · Houston

Bring a book you actually loved. Not one you're clearing off your shelf, one that mattered to you. When you arrive, you'll write a short note inside the cover: why it stuck with you, or what you hope the next reader gets from it. That's your read receipt.

Then we swap. Then everyone reads together in silence for an hour. Phones away, coffee or tea in hand, soft music on.

You leave with a book a stranger loved enough to part with, and their note inside it. They leave with yours. 20 people.

Do I have to bring a book?

Yes, that's the whole thing. Bring one you actually loved, not one you're trying to get off your shelf. Any genre works.

What do I write in the note?

A few lines. Why it mattered to you, when you read it, what you hope the next person gets from it. There's a card waiting for you with space to write, so you don't have to figure it out ahead of time.

I'm not big on small talk. Is this for me?

This might be the best event we run for that. Most of the night is quiet on purpose, and the book does the introducing for you.

Do I keep the book I pick?

Yes. The book and the note inside it go home with you.

    Who can come?

Everyone. This one's open to all genders.

    What does the waitlist mean?

We're still finalizing the details. Join the waitlist and you'll get first access to tickets before anyone else, plus the venue announcement as soon as it's locked in.

How does the swap actually work?

Books go on the table with your note tucked inside. Everyone browses, picks the one that calls to them. No assignments, no trading rules.

    What happens during silent hour?

You start the book you just picked. An hour, phones away, soft music, coffee or tea. Reading next to people without having to perform is the point.
